Random Acts of Inattention

It never fails. Whenever I ask my son to take pictures of me while I'm riding, his attention always manages to drift off somewhere else. Sometimes it's the manure pile...

Or the chewed up wood pile...

Or his basketball hoop...

Or the fence...

Or a tire...

Or a bird flying overhead...

Believe me, there are dozens more where these came from. The boy just can't point a camera and not shoot.

Looks like he has an eye for texture in some of his photos. I recently found your blog and enjoy it. Looking forward to reading more.

he's a great photographer - can you offer him a reward for some actual equestrian pics? make him a pan of brownies for every 10 good horseback photos? :)

This has actually become a running joke between my son and I. It's a game he plays. Sometimes he "borrows" my camera when I'm not looking, takes a bunch of random close-ups of odd objects, and lets me discover them when I download all my photos to my computer. I agree that most of his random shots are very good.

One time I had been trying to get a picture of him, but he kept running away and hiding. The next time I downloaded pictures to my computer, I found a bunch of self-portraits he had taken when I wasn't looking. Of course, in every picture he was making some goofy face.

Also, I'm always telling him that when he is taking shots of me riding, he should be aware of manure piles and avoid getting them into frame. I always clean up fresh piles before I ride since my gelding always makes evasive moves around or over piles, but sometimes fresh piles appear while I am riding and I don't want to have to dismount to clean them up. So, my son always has to purposefully sneak in a few shots of manure just to get my goat. It is pretty funny.

Well he knows how to take a picture. Now if you could just get him to take one of you and the horses...

Thats so funny! I was just going thru a bunch of picture files... and found two occasions where my 6yr old was given the camers. In one "shoot" there are some nice (well, on topic) shots and then a close up of the horses sheath and then one directly behind the tail (butt!) I guess he had to get a pee-pee and hiney shot in- hes a little boy, and these things are very important to little boys you know!! Then there was another shoot were he was supposed to catch us on horseback- he got a few shots- then there are three of a dead mouse he must have stumbled across in the grass. one was just a shot of it from above- then another from above where you can see his sneakers- then EWW, a close up! Its amazing what little boys see thru the lense- silly boys :)
