Sunday Stills: Good Eats

The subject of food for this week's Sunday Stills is very appropriate for what has been on my mind lately. I have started experimenting with my food intake to see if I can improve my health. Here are a few snapshots from around my kitchen...

And of course, we can't forget the most important food of all...

On a side note, Katharine Swan is having a book giveaway on her Pony Tales Blog. Take a look.

The Salmon looks good. I like getting a filet and grilling it.

You are so good to be thinking healthy! I'm a junk food addict in need of an intervention, lol!

omgosh that is so evil! do you have any idea what effect that would have on me? looking at all those things i want but cannot have?

like, cracklin oat bran? (how i miss that!)

dried mangoes?

do you know that none of that is available in germany? oatmeal - what is that?

i miss that simply basic stuff so much. i had some sort of emotional reaction when i visited home last, and opened my mom's pantry and saw all that stuff....well, the stuff you've just photographed.

*sigh*

refried beans, how i miss a can of you.

chefboyardee, do have you any idea how bad the ravioli in a can is here? if so, you could make a fortune...

vanilla extract, please. absolutely does not exist here. must be brought back in luggage.

campbells - do you know how i've learned to cook without your cream of mushroom/chicken/anything? it was hard!

black eyed peas??!?! i'm dying here!

NM, i love your new cupboards and counters.

i just hope next time you have them shut when you photograph them.

Looks like a well stocked kitchen, and I bet you're loving all the new cupboards. I like those packaged salads too; I buy the Southwest one.

Very clever! I never thought of posting pics of the food my critters eat. And we are feeding them much of every day. lol!

And look at your cabinets, girlfriend! So neat and tidy and organized! Are you loving that, or what?

I can't eat fish. The smell and taste makes me gag. But you've got a lot of great selections there.

Lytha - You succeeded in making me feel terribly guilty. Actually, The Biggest Loser TV show affected me worse when they mentioned that 1 in 6 Americans are going hungry, which makes me realize that I'm probably getting more than my fair share of food since I have the luxury to eat whenever I'm hungry, and even whenever I am not hungry, but just have a hankering for something. You didn't mention the decorative cake icing that I bought to use when I made gingerbread men for Christmas, but never got around to it. Yes, I'm spoiled. But you've got your man and your Baasha, and that's all you need.

NM, you are making me hungry! Are those clementines? If so that is a staple around our house lately, too. :o) And oh, I love California rolls... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I totally believe a change in diet can improve anyone's (and everyone's) health. As a country we eat far too much that is processed and/or filled with chemicals and antibiotics. There is something to be said for eating more whole foods, more organic foods, and definitely more plant foods!

oh, i didn't mean to make you feel so bad, i'm sorry!

just missing those little things from home. it's funny how my homesickness is almost totally those "little things" like what you photographed.

otoh, i'm learning to cook! like right now, mmmm, i just pulled my roast thyme chicken out of the oven and tasted it. i surrounded it with carrots (sorry baasha) and red potatoes and onions. it is so amazing. not long ago i couldn't imagine cooking something like that!

but if you look in my sorry cupboards, you'd see such boring basics. canned peas and tomatoes, lentils, noodles. boxes of tomato sauce and paste. i'm trying really hard to be healthy this year! heavy cream won't be coming into my food for a long time!

however, some people would be envious of our snack cabinet, if i were to photograph it. especially those people who have an affinity for german goodies. we received so many delicacies for christmas it's ridiculous. dark german chocolate, marzipan, gingerbread stuff....but amazingly this stuff is not very attractive to me. i'm not a chocolate person (my man is. he eats chocolate every day of his life!). i would prefer a can of corn to anything chocolate. that was my breakfast today - a can of corn with butter, salt and pepper.

this is more like a comment for your healthy eating blog, huh?

sorry so long!
