Heads and Tails

Horse stepping on its tail while backing up...

These English riders caught me by surprise. I wish I could have been quick enough to snap a shot of what happened in the instant before this. Basically, these riders and horses came racking out of one arena across a driveway into another arena, and they had a groomer with a brush running behind them brushing out the tail. As soon as they entered the staging area of their class, the groomers released the tails and let them drag on the ground. It was quite a sight to see.

Theres actually a specific way to braid or loop the tail it get it to grow this long. I would do it to Indigo's tail but she might catch it on something being outside 24/7

Is that a "real" tail or does that first horse have extensions?
Arabians have such beautiful heads. Thanks for sharing.

You got some great photos over the last couple of days. Sounds like you've been having a good time, too.

Beautiful tails on these horses, I fear that Gilly will never have a beautiful long tail. Pokey is always chewing on it, his mane too. I need to find something to keep Pokey from chewing Gilly and everything else! Fence posts, buildings anything he can lay his teeth on is chewed. I think he is part termite!!!!

Beautiful but not very practical. I guess what you want depends on the breed and the type of showing you are doing. What an experience it must be to see so much glitz.

Arabs really are so pretty, aren't they. I don't anyone can argue that!

So do they keep these tails pinned up when the horses are home? What a pain it would be in a field! LOL

The tails are kept up all the time with the exception of when they show. I don't know what the rules are on tail extensions, so I couldn't tell you if any of these horses have them.

Great pictures! Thanks so much for sharing :) I am in awe of those tails... wouldn't be too practical but they sure do look darn good!

So, I suppose that is what is keeping Paint Girl so busy during the show....the face make-up and grooming out and running after tails. They are so pretty!

Wow that would be some job trying to keep those horses groomed, they are beautiful but I have to wonder do they ever get to be outside other than in an arena?
