Wildfire Affecting Livestock

A wildfire is burning out of control in the valleys and mountains between Carson City and Reno with up to 80 mph winds pushing it along.  A gust of 122 mph was recorded at Slide Mountain.  There are a lot of ranches in this area.  Animals north of the fire are being evacuated to the Reno Livestock Events Center and animals south of the fire are being evacuated to Fuji Park in Carson City.  Law enforcement and firefighters had to release cattle and horses from their grazing areas, so they are free roaming at the moment.  Stay out of the area, and if you have to drive through, watch out for these animals and emergency vehicles.

Vice President Joe Biden was at Galena High School giving a speech when the event was cut short because the high school was needed for a command center for firefighters.  The FBI agents accompanying him on his trip have been helping out in evacuating the area.  There was just a news conference held at Galena High School, and now the flames are bearing down on that area.  I hope no more structures burn.  My son loves pole vaulting at Galena High School when he's home for the summer.  Rain and snow are starting to creep over the mountain now, so hopefully the winds will die down and the precipitation will help put out the fire.

Wow. That's some crazy wind, and I'm surprised there's so much to burn. I picture snow on the ground. Let's pray the weather helps out.

This is a scary fire. It is amazing how they pop up and blow up so quickly. I saw on the news that 20 homes have been burned and thousands of people have been evacuated.
Is your area in danger? I hope not!

I grew up in the shadow of the San Gabriel mountains and I know how quickly fires can spread. Saw the news stories about this today...so sad. Hope you get rain and snow
